Trendwatching around the world: Tosilab @ Maison&Objet Paris 2018

It’s time to fly to Paris for Tosilab’s trendwatching team, to discover new trends in the world of design and furniture. From 19 to 23 January in Paris – at the Parc de Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte – it takes place the Maison & Objet 2018, the first major event of the year entirely dedicated to the latest design trends, home furnishings, fashion, textiles and much more.

Maison & Objet 2018: what edition will it be?

Maison & Objet is organized for the first time in 1995 and immediately collects an enormous success, so that it is now organized twice a year (in January and September).

The Maison & Objet 2018 edition provides a full overview of all commonly used products in home: design, furniture, fabrics, accessories, tableware and much more. The fair is divided into 3 macro-areas:

  • Maison, the area dedicated to the home, in which to find new and innovative collections of accessories;
  • Objet, in which to find objects of any kind and for any environment, with a strong focus on design;
  • Influences, an area dedicated to trends in a wide way, from design to interior design and fashion.

Maison&Objet 2018 in numbers

During the 5 days in Paris, over 3000 will be the brands that will be exhibiting at the Maison & Objet 2018, coming from 60 countries all over the world. Even 70 conferences on design and trends and 30 various events (exhibitions, installations …). On the other hand, 6 Italian designers will be selected in the Rising Talent Awards program, which will exhibit their projects in a space entirely dedicated to them (Hall 7, Booth “Talents à la Carte”) to present and narrate their creativity. These are Federica Biasi, Antonio Facco, Marco Lavit Nicora, Kensaku Oshiro, Federico Peri and Guglielmo Poletti. Here are some of their projects:

Why is Show-room the theme of the fair?

The theme chosen for this edition of Maison & Objet 2018 will be ‘Show-room’, a key trend in the evolution of consumption and highlighted by the creative agency Nelly Rodi, in the person of Vincent Grégoire. According to Grégoire, consumer behavior has strongly changed in recent years: it is no longer the product that makes the consumer, but the consumer who makes the product. Today’s products are staged in the same way as a collector who chooses what to show their visitors; every product is taken care of, stylized and perfected to be appreciated in contexts that today have a huge value – like social networks – and this is essential to get noticed. Based on these observations, Gregoire will sign the setting up of the Espace d’Inspirations! and the Café-Library whose spaces will be set up with mirrors, windows and projectors that will form interactive places where visitors can play with objects and shop windows.

Cecilie Manz designer of the year

As usual at the Paris fair, the Designer of the year is chosen among the most famous names in design and international contemporary furniture. To receive this important recognition is Cecilie Manz, a Danish designer who pioneered a style that today is called “warm minimalism”. Formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki, Cecilie Manz enjoys an approach that balances attention to nature and civilization; he has designed, throughout his career, lamps, furniture and design accessories for brands such as Lightyears, Fritz Hansen, Bang & Olufsen, Actus, Duravit, Iittala, Georg Jensen and Muuto.

During the fair will present the personal exhibition ‘Cecilie Manz – Obejcts’ (Hall 7, Stand A1.19) in which to find projects from the past and present some unpublished pieces. Here are some of Cecilie Manz’s projects.
