The awareness that something is changing in our planet due to climate change is now a widespread issue: this year  the UN launched the alarm which highlighted how the time available to limit heating global of 1.5 degrees is only 12 years and represents the only way to avoid catastrophic levels of sea level rise and increase in extreme weather events.

We have seen in recent events dedicated to design – from the Fuorisalone to the 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen – how widespread is the trend towards the design of eco-sustainable objects and the re-use, for example, of plastic for the creation of new materials and products; but also architecture is moving towards an eco-sustainable design, in full respect of the environment.

Architects Declare: who are the founders

The news comes from the United Kingdom where, at the end of May 2019, 17 architects and British architecture firms founded Architects Declare, a commitment to adopt a series of changes in their projects to combat global warming.

The founding members are all winners of the famous British RIBA Stirling Prize (an annual architectural competition organized by the British Royal Institute of British Architects) and among the signatories we find names of caliber like the Zaha Hadid Architects, David Chipperfield Architects and Foster + Partners, all united to call for collective action to tackle climate and biodiversity emergencies.

In summary, the architects who adhere to Architects Declare are committed to designing buildings, cities and infrastructures with a positive impact on the environment, with the aim of creating a wider self-sufficient system that can increasingly take hold over the years. The organization is inviting all other architectural firms to make the same commitment.
